Sandy Askey-Adams

SANDY ASKEY-ADAMS
BIOGRAPHY

It is truly an honor for Sandy to have
been elected a Juried member of the
Pastel Society of America.   She has
also been accepted into LAI-landscape
Artists International and is presently a
member of the American Academy of
Women Artists.

Emerson's advice was "go out to walk
with a painter."  He said this because
when walking side by side with a
painter, you will see for the first time
the landscape as you never saw it
before.

"For me, every painting is an
experience of life, part of the journey,
and I love that journey.  When I look
at our natural surroundings, the
landscape, the blades of grass, the
rippling waters, the woodlands, the
sweet blossoms of spring, the ocean and
sands of the beach, the serene greens
of summer, the blues, purples and
grays of winter, there is no question of
what inspires me.
So yesterday, today and always while on
my journey through life, with a
whispered prayer, I aspire to capture
that spirit, serenity, peace and beauty
of nature in the hope that you the
viewer will experience a tranquil
uplifting if even for a few moments in
time.  I invite you to join me on that
journey."

Pastels are the main medium of choice
for Sandy, although she also work in
oils and watercolours.  She loves the
dramatic contrast, the rich layers of
colours and the vibrant visual
luminescence that can be achieved with
pastels.
She considers herself  fortunate to have
won awards in pastels including First
Place Awards,  and also in oils and
watercolours.
Even  as a little girl living in the
countryside of Pennsylvania, her
passion was and still is drawing and
painting.  It was a natural and essential
form of self expression.  The
interpretation of nature and its moods
continue to be the focus of her work
today.

Sandy's  palette of accomplishments
and experiences have varied throughout
the years, including illustrations for the
book titled "Nature Buff's Story" about
Allegheny State Park. She was the
official artist for HammerSmith Farm
in Newport, Rhode Island which was the
home of Jacqueline Bouvier and later
JFK's Summer White House.  Sandy
has painted wall murals for Our lady of
Mt. Carmel school in Doylestown, have
painted wall murals for Designer
Homes as well as private homes, have
designed theatre sets, taught art classes
and have also have been the featured
artist in art shows. Her work is in the
collection of Ronald McDonald House in
Delaware, the collection of Keebler
Corporation, and the Johnson &
Johnson Corporation.

Sandy has participated in various art
shows for over 25 years on the East
coast, which includes gallery exhibits,
juried and invitational art shows, and
outdoor art shows.
In addition to the Fine Arts, Sandy
enjoys playing and composing music at
the piano.
