AUDEAN JOHNSON
BIOGRAPHY

“Life without art is impossible to imagine.
Art is everywhere and at all
times. The only challenge is to see it. My
job is to create beauty out of
ordinary objects so that people see with
new eyes. To be able to change a point
of view or to lift a consciousness is a gift -
and what could be better than
a gift of loveliness.
A painting is a message from the soul. All
that an artist is has been
revealed in the painting or sculpture. So a
work of art has a lot to say - on the
surface and deep within. The vibrations of
the colors, subject and design affect
all observers.
My watercolor technique is unusual but
natural to myself. I paint one object
at a time, finish it and relate all the other
elements to that one object, trusting
that the object is right and true. The
painting is finished inch by inch.
Sometimes I switch to a much faster
technique for the fun and
freedom of expression.
My sculpture is another dimension in my
creative self. My subjects stretch
from serious angels to humorous
mermaids.”

Audean’s dynamic watercolor still lifes
and scupltures are in private
collections world wide. Solo exhibitions in
Manhattan, Vermont and
Pennsylvania have been complemented by
group shows in Palm Beach,
Chicago, Los Angeles, New Orleans and
Hong Kong, where her
watercolor skill is highly valued. Featured
In American Artist and Victoria
magazines, many of her works have also
been translated into lithographs.
Audean’s children’s books have created
an appreciative younger
audience for her humor and painting
skills. She is a graduate of the
University of the Arts (formerly the
Philadelphia College of Art).
Audean is a world traveler and always
takes paints on her journeys.
