Nancy Shelly
Oil & Acrylics

Nancy spends her time between
Bucks County and Marco Island,
Florida.  Nancy and her husband
travel extensively and have been
influenced by many of the beautiful
places she has visited, painting in
Europe and various places in the US.

Growing up in Bucks County I
became inspired by the Bucks County
Impressionists.  After graduating
from Penn State University in
education, she taught nursery school
for a number of years and then
concentrated on raising her family.
After her children started college,
Nancy began taking classes at the
Doylestown Art Center and the
Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

Nancy became enthralled with the
idea of painting on location “en Plein
Air.”  She started taking workshops
with some of the great plein air
painters including Bob Rohm, Ken
Backhaus, Dan Young, Frank
Serrano, Aaron Schuerr, Ned
Mueller, John Budicin, Ann
Templeton, Charles Gruppe, Hedi
Moran and Mary White.

When  not painting outdoors, Nancy
paints from life in her studio.  Her
other passion are florals and
interiors.  She only use photos
sparingly for reference.

Nancy has shown her work locally,
including the 82nd juried Art
Exhibition at Phillips Mill and at the
LBI Foundation of the Arts in New
Jersey.  On Marco Island at the
Marco Island Art League and MIFA.
She has also shown at the Museum
of the Everglades and the Von Liebig
Museum in Naples, Florida.

Artist Statement

My goal as an artist is to interpret,
not copy, the subject which inspired
me and bring the same sense of
beauty to the viewer.

Painting on location, observing the
light and atmospheric conditions
brings an awareness and a sense of
time and place to my work, which is
translated through  a variety of brush
strokes, palate knife work and
thickness’ of paint.
